Ceramic Coating and paint Layers

What is a ceramic coating?

Simply put, it's a strong protective layer that bonds with your paint protecting it from bugs, chemicals, UV damage, bird bombs and more! It does this while keeping the surface glossy and easy to clean leaving your paint below untouched! However, not all ceramic coatings provide the performance and protection you need!

Find out below!

How are your coatings different than other shops?

For starters, your'e always getting the best customer service with Remedy Auto Detail from start to finish!

Our super hydrophobic coatings use the industry's leading technology that's made right here in the USA!  The formulas contain Polysilazane, Silicon Carbide, Silicon Nitride, Silicon Dioxide and Refined Detonated Nano Diamonds in order to provide the performance you are looking for. The gloss, slickness, ease of cleaning , chemical resistance and durability surpasses any of the other ceramic coatings on the market today. "Diamonds are your car's best friend!"

Beware of coatings that require reapplications or toppers. Ours ONLY need one application and can be returned to you just one hour after installed. No need to wait days! Maintenance is very simple. With safe wash methods, our Luxury coatings can last as long as the paint below!

Can a coated vehicle go through a car wash?

Hey, it's your investment. We won't stop you, but please DON'T! Those fancy car washes with the spinning fingers will damage any paint, let alone a coating! Abrasion is a sure way to remove a coating. Even the soaps used in both touch and touchless car washes can be harsher than normal to ensure a "better clean" on the other end. In reality, you are slowly damaging your paint and adding a plethora of swirls that will eventually dull the finish. If you don't have a coating, it is far worse, but can still scar or scratch a coating. With our coatings, (especially being in the North East) if you have to go through any car wash in a pinch, choose a touchless wash! The soaps are harsh, but at least the ceramic coating is extremely durable and will protect your paint.

Now throw away your monthly "Scratch Pass" and have us safely maintain the shine your vehicle deserves!

How do I maintain my vehicle's paint?

Every time you wash a vehicle, there is the potential of inflicting damage when using incorrect washing techniques. It's vital to remember not to wash directly on gritty surfaces and to not use heavy pressure when washing or drying. Our washing products perform great with both coated and non-coated vehicles. Of course a coated vehicle will make cleaning much easier, but the chemicals and methods used are virtually the same. Our "Maintenance Exterior Detail" uses these safe methods for all washes. If your vehicle is coated, make sure you are using that brand coating's recommended chemicals. We use a "Rinse-less" method that emulsifies the dirt, breaking it down and encapsulates the particles which allows us to safely use a closed cell sponge to clean the surface. We then dry with a clean plush microfiber drying towel.

Doing this regularly not only keeps the shine, but also limits the amount of addition chemicals required to achieve the cleanliness you desire.

Paint Correction
vs.
Paint Preservation

"Paint Correction" is polishing or wet sanding your paint down to the deepest achievable depth of the scratches (swirls). This process removes layers of your clear coat to level the top layer of paint in order to "revive it's luster" again. Although this very achievable, it isn't the best way to preserve your clear coat. "Paint Preservation" is always the safer approach as its rounding the edges of the scratches making them less noticeable, adding gloss while maintaining the durability of your clear coat.  "Paint Correction" is to be done sparingly and not always the safest approach. Clear coat or a top coat is just a small layer of plastic over your paint. Once it's thinned out too much, any further scratches are no longer able to be removed. "Perfect Paint" isn't perfect at all. You want to leave as much of the clear as possible while enhancing the overall appearance of your paint to maintain its protective properties.

Allow the experts at Remedy Auto Detail to look over your paint to determine what level polishing should be achieved!

How long do ceramic coatings last?

Maintenance is the biggest factor in any ceramic coating's durability. Next would be the quality of the ceramic formula applied. Retail grade ceramic coatings do not compare to the high end performance of luxury ceramic coatings. In some cases you can visually see the difference. With proper safe washing methods and utilization of quality chemicals, our coatings can last and perform for the life of the paint without any required toppers or reapplications.

Our Luxury Ceramic Coatings are our most durable, as well as our highest performing coatings offered. They also have the highest resistance to fracturing / failure unlike others that require toppers and yearly reapplications. A step down from that is our Premium Ceramic Coating that offers very high performance as it has the same key quality ingredients, however, in a less concentrated formula. This means you will get the performance of the Luxury Coating, but with less durability and resistance to chemicals. A ceramic sealant / "spray ceramic coating" is not nearly as durable as a coating, which typically lasts only 3-6 months.

A coating should not be chosen based off "years it lasts" but rather by "what key features and performances do they achieve?". As a reminder, any coating can be removed by abrasion in no time at all with improper care or washing techniques! Just because a coating states it will last "X" amount of years, doesn't always mean it performs that long. Choosing a high performing coating that can be easily cleaned and maintained is more beneficial to your investment. This is why Remedy Auto Detail hand picks only the highest quality products to use on your vehicle that outperform and will last, exceeding your expectations!

Will tree sap and bird bombs  actually damage my paint?

Yes! If left on for too long, especially in the sun, it will eat away your paint. Bird bombs (uric acid) and tree sap are highly acidic! You want to safely remove both from your paint as soon as possible to prevent heavy damage.

(see photo)

If you noticed sap or bird droppings on your vehicle that has a coating installed by us, don't panic! Safely remove either with a recommended cleaning solution, then gently wipe away with a safe , quality microfiber towel. If you notice any etching , don't rub the area harder. If you leave it in the sun for a few days, the coating will "heal". In any event, the Remedy Auto Detail team will be more than happy to assist you!
